Most of us would rather not go through the harsh reality of grief and healing. Sometimes it's easier to accept the circumstances, than to have to contend with the impacts on our intrapersonal and interpersonal worlds.
I heard somewhere that Father's Day is like the 18th most popular holiday in the US. Admittedly I even forget when it is more often than not.
These rose quartz hands & tiny rose quartz heart are two favorites that I keep with the girls' things. Together they remind me of how I held Aviva & Jora in my hands, and how I literally felt like my heart was outside of my body.
Hardest, most rewarding, most impactful, most elating, most confusing, most judged, most appreciated, most blamed, most intense, most exhausting, most evolutionary, most society-changing, most relational-template-forming job in existence (there's more I could add, but you get the point).
Motherhood is complex and multilayered. Today let's remember the birth mothers/parents who, for whatever their reasons, decided to allow opportunity for the child and another adult to experience parenthood.
In another installment of what NOT to say; check out this short/not-exhaustive list of religion/faith-based things NOT to say to loss parents.
